Book Clubs and reading groups ...

I once set up a book club in London ....we had about three meetings and it died a death,....lack of enthusiasm and a general apathy on the part of the members to read the book! So when we moved I thought about joining one...asked around the village a bit and finally I was invited to join - apparently they are very full ! Once asked I received the book lists and felt very sniffy about the whole idea - basically being a bit of an out of London snob! - so thought to myslef that if I did not like it there was no obligation to continue....

one very snowy Thursday night in February I set out to a cottage at the other end of the village for a very enjoyable evening of wine and good discussion. I got home and had a large dish of humble pie for supper!

You know what makes a good book club is a real variety of people - in our group ( all women ) the age ranges from 40 to 75, with a wide range of ideas and thoughts so the two meetings I have now attended are lively, the debate can get heated and everyone has fun...
