A test

Need to see if I have correctly set up mobile blogging

This is a new blog for me as I have already kept two - the first while we waited to become parents , the second after we became parents and now this one - whose inception came about when a friend asked me how easy it was to set up a blog so I decided to launch toast and see what happened !

There have been a few sporadic posts but nothing of any consequence ! So I now have to decide what it is and why ! The others ( one no longer updated and the other a visual record of my daughter for friends and family) had. A purpose and still do for their specific audiences but I read so many blogs that I too want to join the party and leave the family with their pictures and photo diary ! While I blither on about something else

Still deciding what to blithe on about but probably revolve around life in the shires, maintaining an urban edge etc etc !! Hey !

Book Clubs and reading groups ...

I once set up a book club in London ....we had about three meetings and it died a death,....lack of enthusiasm and a general apathy on the part of the members to read the book! So when we moved I thought about joining one...asked around the village a bit and finally I was invited to join - apparently they are very full ! Once asked I received the book lists and felt very sniffy about the whole idea - basically being a bit of an out of London snob! - so thought to myslef that if I did not like it there was no obligation to continue....

one very snowy Thursday night in February I set out to a cottage at the other end of the village for a very enjoyable evening of wine and good discussion. I got home and had a large dish of humble pie for supper!

You know what makes a good book club is a real variety of people - in our group ( all women ) the age ranges from 40 to 75, with a wide range of ideas and thoughts so the two meetings I have now attended are lively, the debate can get heated and everyone has fun...

what goes around comes around//......

life as we are told every day on the news and in the papers is HARD! so I have decided a personal economic experiment is required...

we are fortunate to live in a nice warm house..we have heating and all those mod cons that we take for granted. We are told to get out of this recession we need to start spending our way out of it ....but I have decided that I need to go back to what my mother always does and says...

'' mum you need a new television ' I heard myself saying to her a few years back ..' No ' she said ' that one is perfectly fine and still working ...My microwave is about 20 years old and still working...I do not need a new one..'

So back to my experiment...I have decided that in 2009 I will not buy new clothes or things until I really need one - I look in my wardrobe ..two big rails of clothes - do i really need new ones ?

I counted - I have 14 pairs of jeans....ranging in different leg widths and waistband heights.! I have more shoes and boots than I care to mention...As I have quite a large walk in wardrobe I have had the luxury of being able to hang on to things, I guess some people may say I am a hoarder! but hey military was around what 4 years ago...in my wardrobe I spied two military style jackets from Primark and a beautiful cardigan from Marc Jacobs with glorious buttons....
I skulked around some clothing stores today ( well no-one else was in there and the sales staff looked bored! ) and hey those bow necked blouses I got in Top Shop and Hennes about 4 years are also making a come back as well as paisley smock tops and brogue flat shoes ....not sure if I will ever need to shop again!

Having said that my favourite pair of Celt sheepskin boots have sprung a hole in the toe...can I justify a new pair??? and what about those cute pink converse I left in the garden last summer -- can they be rescued!
