Friday August 6th

Its Harvest time everywhere....as a farmers daughter I loved the days of the harvests, the smell of the hay as it was turned, collecting the bales in the evening sun, eating in the open air in the fields, taking my father his food on the tractor....it was always quite a slow and measured activity with one eye on the sky to check for impending rain clouds.....

Now living in the country it seems to be great big steel beasts that rattle through the night, rattling tractors through the village and great machines that devour fields in a matter of hours...

Day three of August Break

Well not really day three because I only started yesterday but hey.....

Today are some pictures of the Yew and the Nelly in my blog title....I started blogging in early 2006 while we waited for our referral to adopt our daughter from China ..it was a way of keeping people informed of what at the time seemed like a long wait. Once we arrived home in january 2007, I ended that blog and began a second one entitled Life with Nelly....again more of a diary, event tracker of our new family and our move from London to the country....it was a great way to share our stories and adventures with friends and family in distant places...This blog ended last year when my Mum sadly passed away after a short illness.....

And so to Yew ( the name of our house) Me and Nelly... The Yew is huge and dominates the front garden, it is protected, unlike the house, and has amazing branch structure; this hot weather has meant a lot of leaf drop even on something so old and strong.

.I was never really sure what this blog should be, so this August Break - not really a break for me; has re-energised me and kickstarted my blog....and Hot Buttered Toast...well it is always a comfort, something that makes us all feel better....

the path through a field nearby, we often take a walk through the corn..

August Break

A lot of people I tweet with are all taking part in this fab thing called the August Break...you take a picture every day of the month and upload to your blog or FlickR acct...I thought what a cool way to kick start this blog...and an excellent way to make you look at the world aound you each day rather than dashing headlong through at 100 miles an hour which is our want ...so I am a day behind in starting

Half Term...

Why is it that as parents we are all programmed to feel that if we are not entertaining our children every minute of the day during a holiday with paid treats and outings that for some reason they are missing out??? I decided that this half term we would do one big treat - a trip to London to meet friends and the day on the SouthBank in the sunshine and the rest of the time we made things, spent time with friends, went on walks, baked cakes, had cinema and popcorn at home! and generally enjoyed each others company and those of others....When I was a child this is what we did!

re-igniting this blog...2010 ...new Year new blog...need to decide on a raison d'etre for this one..all other blogs have been about me and my family....This one will be a bout general musings on life..how it hits us, where it takes us , how nothing but a good cup of tea and some hot buttered toast makes the world feela better place..
